I use Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger, formerly Windows Messenger), largely because I already had Passport IDs created, so the MS system was the only one that didn't require me to create yet another online account.
Also, I spent an unreasonable amount of time testing MS' IM solutions for Final Judgment compliance.
On a note completely unrelated to the previous sentence :), I note that Windows Vista does not have any IM software included whatsoever.
I'm usually logged in while I'm at work, but I don't use it much except to coordinate the occasional lunch outing.
