This has got to win some kind of weird science award, but I'm not sure which one: sex in an MRI machine. :D There are not enough snide comments in the world.

Proof that Idaho is crazy: an initiative to get rid of all wolves. For a couple months now, I've been following Idaho wolf stories in Tidepool, and each of them is nuttier than the last. Aside from my environmentalist, bleeding-heart ways, this is also a bad idea because it's a waste of money.

I don't think this has been much in the news, so just FYI, the list of WA forestland potentially up for sale includes pieces of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and the Wenatchee National Forest.

My two latest amusements: "Jon Swift"'s blog, by "a reasonable conservative" who "gets all [his] news from Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Jay Leno monologues." ("The Massachusetts Plan, in a sense, would be a gateway drug that would result in people craving more and more health care. And who would ultimately be the beneficiaries of more health care? Trial lawyers, of course, because more health care will naturally result in more malpractice suits.") And Seasonal Cornucopia, a searchable database of seasonal foods in the PNW. I realize I could just walk over to the Pike Place Market to see what's in season, but hell, there's tourists there now. I'd need cover fire to go in there.

"We're not anarchists and we're not Aryan Nation wolf-killers," Gillett said. "But if something isn't done about these wolves, mark my word, there will be civil disobedience."

UGH. What assholes.

Why is so much forest land up for sale? Is that normal?

It's part of a special proposal by the Bush administration to sell off pieces of national forests to pay for rural schools. I can't find the original news article I saw on it, but if you play around with Google News you can probably find something on it.

Maybe we could pay for some rural schools if cut our war budget. Just a thought.
