From the You-Have-To-Laugh-Or-Cry news department: an EPA report suggests that toxic sludge could be good for fish. Because if it were bad for fish, you see, the Army Corps of Engineers wouldn't be allowed to dump it into the Potomac.

Fortunately, I have something positive to counter that with. (I hate all-gloom-and-doom environmental news. I know that the situation is pretty bleak, but I think unremittant negative news just makes people tune out or feel hopeless. I feel the same way about mainstream news too, by the way. Serial killers are on page one and the good samaritan stories are buried, if they appear at all.) Anyway, Middlebury College is recycling a building. Steel and iron goes to scrap yards. Limestone is being sold to landscapers. Etc. This is very cool, and it's great to see a college leading the way in this. Best of all, it doesn't add that much to the cost of the project.
