One of our Christmukkah gifts was from friends of The Man's, who are lovely people but whose religious and political views are opposite ours: they are born-again Christians and libertarians. They sent us a vanity-press novel by "Vox Day". If the pseudonym's similarity to Vox Dei (voice of God) weren't enough to tip me off that the author is a pompous ass, I also found a bunch of links to his foolishness from

I think it's best if I don't write the thank-you note for such a gift. I am afraid if I got started thanking them for the book, I would be unable to stop listing the ways in which I find the author entertaining and the hilarity it has brought to our household.
