The fish in the Duwamish Waterway are contaminated with PCBs. This comes as no surprise to many people, but the problem is communicating the danger to people who don't speak English and fish the Duwamish for subsistence. The plan is to post signs in many languages; I say, hire a good graphic artist and put up a comic-strip panel. It can't be that hard to pictorially communicate "if you eat fish from this water, you will get sick."

Last night I was part of a conversation about international symbols and how their meaning is pretty clear (except for the laundry related ones) and you can communicate a lot with someone even if they had never seen the symbol before.
